K-Gr 2-A well-done version of a traditional Jewish folktale illustrated with colorful, full-page paintings. In the manner of all well-used things, Joseph's beloved blanket deteriorates but is transformed again and again by his ingenious grandfather. The tailor converts the fabric into smaller and smaller practical items, such as a jacket, a tie, a pair of suspenders, and lastly, a button. Virtually nothing remains of the precious cloth-except for a budding idea of a story.-Selene S.
