   Book Review

Author Robert A. Schuller builds on his worldwide "Possibility Living" radio show to offer a unique book that blends natural health with Christian faith. As the son of Robert H. Schuller, founder of the Crystal Cathedral, Schuller is firmly rooted in his biblical knowledge and Christian ideology. He joins forces with coauthor Douglas Di Siena, a natural health practitioner, in order to offer separately written chapters on healthy living and Christian living. The cumulative effect? "Full possibility living."

Unfortunately, the coauthors' chapters don't always build on one another. For example, in one chapter Di Siena explains how "possibility living" means eating healthy, super foods, such as leafy greens and soybeans, as well as taking nutritional supplements. In the following chapter Schuller delves into the power of prayer and communing with God. Overall, however, Christians who are interested in a healthier lifestyle as well as a more conscious connection to God will find numerous inspiring suggestions from this duo.

From Publishers Weekly
Schuller, son of Crystal Cathedral founder Robert H. Schuller, collaborates with chiropractor Di Siena to teach readers to "detoxify" their minds, bodies and spirits in an effort to achieve long, healthy lives. The two authors write alternate chapters, with Di Siena developing timely, substantive arguments about natural healing and Schuller rehashing stale self-help sermons with overused illustrations. Schuller espouses a Christian spirituality that seeks success and wellness; according to him, Jesus' parable of the sower "illustrates how important it is to plant seeds of successAones that will produce a healthy and prosperous life." For his part, Di Siena strongly recommends chiropractic care that, he claims, not only sustains wellness but also "miraculously" heals everything from asthma to cancer. While his repeated testimonials about the wonders of chiropractic seem self-serving, Di Siena's thoughts about the spirit's healing power are helpful and similar to those of Andrew Weil. He echoes not only Weil but also many other health professionals when he admonishes readers to exercise regularly and to eat more fruits and vegetables and fewer processed foods (especially white flour and white sugar). Di Siena writes compellingly about these topics, as well as about his own gift of healing, and as such deserves his own book, not one in which his contributions are ancillary to Schuller's insipid health-and-wealth gospel. Bookseller Reviews

Subtitled Add years to Your Life and Life to Your years with God's health Plan marks the advent of Dr. Robert A. Schuller. For years, he has been the heir apparent to the Hour of Power television ministry of his father, Dr. Robert H. Schuller. Although the closeness of their names accurately reflects the continuity of their message, one senses that Robert the younger is attempting to broaden his appeal among secular readers. Natural health and miraculous uplift.

FROM THE PUBLISHER

This book provides the tools for total wellness, broadening the appeal of the already large "Hour of Power" following, while tapping into the growing natural health market. In this guide for spirit, mind, and body, a nationally known minister and a natural health specialist weave scripture, spirituality, natural health advice, and inspiring true-life stories together in a practical, applicable approach to living wholly, healthfully, and happily. By taking positive steps, such as eating a natural diet, fasting, and prayer, readers are shown how to tap into their innate power for possibility living, remaining open to the voice of God in their lives as they nourish their whole self.
