FROM THE CRITICS
KLIATT - Ann Hart
One of a series of 13 books published by Oxford University Press, most of them anthologies, this volume contains 21 short stories in the SF genre. All the stories are written by different authors on the subject of time, either actual time travel, experiencing events in another place and time, or communicating with someone in another time, even using time to change events and circumstances. Monsters and ghosts are characters in several of the stories, but they are not the super scary types. The copyrights range from 1950 to 2001. The authors are reputable SF and short story writers, including Poul Anderson, Ray Bradbury and Arthur Clarke, and some can be found in English literature textbooks. This is a useful story collection for introducing YAs to the genre. Ranging from highly imagined landscapes and creatures to settings and characters close to our own experiences, these stories will expose readers to the variety of choices available to them. They will also be useful for mind exercise and discussion starters or essay and writing assignments. The book will be a valuable addition to the short story collection simply for entertainment.
