SYNOPSIS

Two professors of education specializing in ESL and bilingualism holistically discuss ESL instruction by examining English language learners themselves, second language acquisition (competence, theory, influences), general teaching/learning methods, orality and literacy development, process writing, teaching literature and WAC, strategies for organizing and remembering readings, and methods to teach and assess reading skills. All chapters are followed by a summary, suggestions for further reading, and activities. The major addition to the third edition is a chapter on reading assessment. Material covered in this book should be part of any ESL reference library, not just those of teachers of K-12. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
