Review Nigerian writer Wole Soyinka, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1986, is probably the African writer most well known in North America. Many of his works are widely held in college libraries and he is studied in both comparative literature and African literature courses. This index will facilitate in-depth research into 20 of Soyinka's major works including plays, novels, and poetry. It is divided into three major indexes--Subjects, Proverbs, and Themes--and references include page numbers of the editions indexed. These three indexes, which constitute the major portion of the volume (289 pages), are supplemented with a helpful introductory essay explaining the use of the work as well as a bibliography of approximately 300 books and journal articles by or about Soyinka. An important tool for anyone engaged in the study of Soyinka's writings, this index should be acquired by any library supporting academic programs at upper-division or graduate level emphasizing African or comparative world literature.Choice
