Our third president, Thomas Jefferson, was a very famous person in American history. He is primarily known for writing the Declaration of Independence. This biography gives us many interesting facts about Jefferson to help us focus on the time period of his life between 1743 and 1826. Jefferson was born in Tidewater, Virginia. At that time, Virginia was an English colony. We learn of Thomas' boyhood adventures, which help us to realize how his formative years were training grounds for our future president's clever ideas. At the age of 14, due to his father's death, he became head of the house and very wealthy. He learned Latin and Greek and at age sixteen went to college at William and Mary in Williamsburg, taking in the atmosphere of this town rich in politics. Later he became a lawyer and was very concerned about taxation as well as other unjust laws the English projected on the colonists. Jefferson's inventions are also brought out in this biography, as well as aspects of his family life. Readers see how the Revolutionary War came into play as Jefferson's notability continued to rise. When Virginia became a state, Jefferson became its governor. He also invented the money system used today. Jeffereson was an amazing man during his lifetime and still is by today's standards.
