FROM THE CRITICS
Children's Literature - Jennifer-Lynn Draper
Andrew Dubble is a highly intelligent boy for a ten-year-old, and this gets him and his friends into trouble when he decides to fix and test out his uncle's newest invention, a submarine made out of a Volkswagen bug. The car accidentally goes on auto-pilot and Andrew, Judy and Andrew's pet robot Thudd get trapped in an unexpected underwater adventure in a search for a giant Squid. Thudd is programmed with all sorts of educational information (some useful to the pair, some not so useful), and the story is an exciting educational adventure into life under the sea. The book manages to be a learning tool without being obvious. The illustrations are great, and provide the reader with a mental image of the story as it unfolds. The book has a cliffhanger of an ending, which makes the reader look forward to the next in the series, "Andrew Lost: #5." 2003, Random House Inc, Ages 6 to 10.
