An infant prodigy of French romanticism and much inspired by Shakespeare and Schiller, Alfred de Musset wrote the first modern dramas in the French language. This anthology of previously unpublished translations brings together the best of Musset theatre, which is also some of the best of French theatre of the nineteenth century. It is the first substantial collection of Musset's work to be made available in English translation and includes his masterpiece, Lorenzaccio, often referred to as the French Hamlet.
