Heiress Gwennelyn of Segrave falls in love with landless knight Rhys de Piaget when she is a child of 10 and he's only 14. Unfortunately, her father has already betrothed her to Alain of Ayre, the spoiled, mean-natured son of a neighbor. Nevertheless, Gwen is determined and once she learns that Rhys loves her in return, she refuses to bend to Alain's will. All seems lost when Alain forces Gwen into marriage but despite the obstacles thrown in their way, Rhys and Gwen's love and commitment holds firm. The path of true love is strewn with seemingly impossible setbacks as the two lovers struggle to find a way to be together. In the end, Rhys and Gwen must risk everything they hold dear in a final attempt to claim a love forbidden by king and church. Another Chance to Dream mixes humor with pathos and English medieval grit with gallantry in a charming historical tale of a love to last a lifetime. --Lois Faye Dyer

From Publishers Weekly
Gwennelyn of Segrave entangles her childhood love, the knight Rhys de Piaget, in a desperate plot to escape her upcoming marriage to the brutal Alain of Ayre. But, in a surprising twist, the scheme fails and Rhys watches miserably as Gwen is forced to the altar. This intriguing medieval romance blends history, family relationships and humor into a love story that spans years and includes many colorful characters who become involved in Rhys's quest for the land and money he needs to buy Gwen's freedom. Against almost insurmountable odds, the lovers eventually manage to free Gwen and her children from their bondage, only to face a battle for Rhys's land. In a medieval society of cruelty, pageantry and doomed chivalry, Kurland creates a special romance between a memorable knight and his lady. Copyright 1998 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Booklist
Medieval courtly love and all its problems are brought to light in this tale about Rhys, a landless knight, and heiress Gwen of Seagrave. Fourteen-year-old Rhys visits Seagrave with his foster father and rescues nine-year-old Gwen from the pigpen. With her fanciful imagination, Gwen immediately falls in love and names Rhys her champion. The feeling is mutual, though both are aware that Gwen is pledged to his foster brother, Alain. Once Rhys is grown, he sets out to make his fortune. On his return, he literally runs into his beloved, who has run away from her betrothed, but Alain gives chase and weds her the very next day. Rhys and Gwen won't give up on their love, however, and persist in trying to find a way to triumph over all the plots against them. Kurland has a unique ability to combine humor with depictions of the brutality of the times, and this is one romance with a hard-earned and satisfying ending. Patty Englemann

From Literary Times
Soft and sassy. Those are the words that come to mind when you read Lynn Kurland's Another Chance to Dream. This new medieval romance combines romantic poetics and modern comebacks to the total delight of the reader. Truthfully, the language of the characters borders on more recent paths, but the flavor of this epic-type romance is full of tradition and beauty. Gwen brings with her a vast inheritance, land full of beauty and promise. It is the man to whom she is promised that she heartily disagrees. Gwen has found her own knight in shining armor, and she centers her entire being on his promise. If it takes running away from her betrothed and becoming a mercenary herself, she vows to find her love again. Rhys de Piaget fell for Gwen's charms long before she was fully a woman. She was by far the loveliest creature he had ever seen. She was, also, promised to the son of the man who had adopted him. As a knight of the realm, he could hardly put himself in the position of traitor to the very household that had raised him. Surely, time in France would earn him enough gold to bribe the Lady Gwen for himself...if not honestly, at least without trouble. Unfortunately for both Rhys and Gwen, trouble seems to seek them out. From one end of this romance to another, they are ambushed by Gwen's witless husband, his conniving and truly dangerous brother and any number of other treacherous villains. The love that rages between Rhys and Gwen is an emotion that wages war with nearly the entirety of England before their epic will play to its end. Lynn Kurland's talent for interesting and entertaining characters is shown to great advantage in this love story that borders on the extreme. At times the reader may be bogged down by all the subplots that seem to be surfacing, but given time, all works into a beautifully laid out bonanza of soft and sassy romance. A medieval epic romance - traditional in style...modern in flare! Characters that will raise your eyebrows more than once! Lovers that will make you laugh! Lynn Kurland writes with beauty and sentiment, but the passion lies just below the surface! Karen Ellington -- Copyright © 110198 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved
