Pain: A Textbook for Therapists FROM THE PUBLISHER
Many people in our communities have ailments that cause pain. As Professor Ronald Melzack has noted, unrelieved pain kills. It is therefore a responsibility of all health professionals to be knowledgeable about, and skilled in the assessment and management of, pain. Physiotherapists and occupational therapists have particularly crucial roles to play in this regard. In recognition of this, in 1994, the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) published the Outline Curriculum on Pain for Schools of Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy. Since then implementation of the OT/PT Pain Curriculum has been hampered by the lack of an integrated, comprehensive textbook to support it. Pain: A Textbook for Therapists has been written to meet that need.
Pain: A Textbook for Therapists will provide those who read it with a greater understanding of the issues involved in assessing and treating people with pain. It will increase their awareness of the problems involved and help them to use a more effective and evidence-based approach to pain management. This book is relevant to all therapists.
