From Publishers Weekly
The Bodine family saga continues with Criswell's delightful portrayal of the youngest brother, Travis, now an attorney. For Criswell fans, this just might be the best yet. The entire family is united in trying to save older brother Rafe from hanging for murder. The young attorney is worried that he doesn't have the necessary criminal trial experience and apparently Rafe's wife feels the same, because she hires Travis's ex-fiancee, attorney Hannah Louise Barkley. The sparks fly, but the two agree that saving Rafe's life is paramount and that surely they can work together long enough for that. Easier said than done, considering the two are still madly in love with each other. The unfolding story is great fun, filled with action, witty dialogue and entirely endearing secondary characters. If it takes more than one sitting to read, you're way too busy. Copyright 1998 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Texas Ranger Ethan Bodine lives by a strict code of right and wrong. So when his brother Rafe goes on the run, Ethan knows he must be the one to bring him to justice. Unfortunately, his plans to intercept his brother are complicated by a petite, headstrong horticulturist named Wilhemina Granville, who's determined to collect the bounty on Rafe's head in order to save her family home from foreclosure. Having been burned by the only woman he came close to loving, Ethan has a less than flattering opinion of the fairer sex, which infuriates the progressive-minded Wilhemina. Having had her own bad luck with love, she's interested in no more than removing those unenlightened ideas from Ethan's head. But as they work their way in and out of several dangerous adventures in their pursuit of Rafe, they come to have a grudging respect for each other--even an undeniable need for each other. And something deeper begins to blossom. . . .

Crossing the fine line between love and hate... "Don't let foolish pride stand in the way of saving your brother's life."
The vein in his neck started to throb. The woman had a way of exasperating him to the boiling point, making him lose whatever tenuous hold he had on his emotions. Without thinking, he grabbed hold of her, startling them both.
"If you've come here to find out if I still want you, Hannah, then here's your answer." Drawing her to his chest, he kissed her passionately. All the hurt, longing, and resentment he'd experienced in the past five years was communicated in that one kiss. But there was something else too. Something Travis hadn't counted on. Feelingshe thought dead and buried were still very much alive and fighting to reach the surface.
