From Booklist
Charlotte Kittridge knew better than to foolishly dream of marriage, but when wounded Nicholas Huntington arrives home from the battlefields of Europe to see his ailing father, Charlotte's romantic hopes for a husband of her own are quickly reborn. Nicholas can't help but notice Charlotte's gentle touch and quick wit as she helps nurse him through his injury; and even though he had vowed never to marry, Nicholas finds himself proposing a marriage of convenience to Charlotte. At first Charlotte is tempted by Nicholas' offer, but the more she considers it, the more Charlotte realizes that what she truly wants isn't a marriage in name only, but rather Nicholas' love. With A Passionate Endeavor, Nash not only adds more sensual passion to the traditional Regency format but also neatly integrates some serious themes into her superbly constructed story. Graced with exquisitely nuanced protagonists and amusing secondary characters, this emotionally satisfying romance is a rare treat. John Charles

"Why, Miss Kittridge, I didnt know you had dimples. How charming," he said, grasping her arm and pulling her close. He touched her cheek with his other hand, and she held her breath. She watched his intense green gaze move from her cheek to her mouth and wondered if there was another man on earth whose appearance could leave her so unsettled. His bronzed hand moved to her arm and she was sure he could see her hearts erratic pounding. He dropped his hand from her face and lightly pulled her to meet him as he raised himself off of the pillows. His warm lips covered her own, and she felt like she would explode by the awareness of his body touching hers. Her mind raced with the knowledge that he was actually kissing her! She pulled back for the smallest instant and looked at him, sure he had made some sort of mistake. He broke away with a sigh and whispered into her ear, "Miss Kittridge, I must apologize. Do forgive me." In her flustered state, Charlotte could not think of a single thing to say. To occupy her shaking hands, she began unwrapping the bandage that was to go on his lordships leg. "Perhaps it would be better for your father to wrap my leg, Miss Kittridge. I daresay not even a saint could be trusted in this condition. I am sorry." She flew from the room, leaving behind the stiffened bandages, her pride, and the scene of her first kiss in all of her spinsterish seven-and-twenty years of existence.
