Set in the cozy town of Callister, Idaho (population 635), Jeffrey's second contemporary western romance (after The Love of a Cowboy) brings together two emotionally battered urban divorces for a second chance at love. When reclusive Alex McGregor, a Los Angeles real estate agent, first spots hunky ex-cop Doug Hawkins, she goes after him-with a heavy duty car jack. Her actions seem almost justified, however, when the reader learns that Doug is trespassing on her land to have a romantic rendezvous with Alex's least favorite townie, the girlfriend of her irresponsible, untrustworthy ex-husband Charlie. After a mysterious fire destroys both cabin and Charlie, Doug tries to help Alex, but various people contrive to keep them apart, including a powerful local logger who's after both Alex and her land and an appealing forest ranger who's smitten with Alex. The protagonists' own deep trust issues also keep them from consummating their relationship until the novel is more than three-quarters of the way through. The delay is delicious, however, and so is the suspense. Jeffrey's hot-blooded heroine, hot hero, complex story line and polished writing make this a riveting read.Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Book Description
Anna Jeffrey's debut novel, The Love of a Cowboy, was praised as "an authentic and powerful love story."* Now she returns to the dusty town of Callister, Idaho-where a stranger is about to bring the wildest of passions to a woman with a heart of ice...
The Love of a Stranger FROM OUR EDITORS
Anna Jeffrey returns to Big Sky country in this second book in her Idaho trilogy. Like The Love of a Cowboy, it's a big, passionate story of a strong man and an even stronger woman who battle their way past independence to love. Alex McGregor is a high-octane real estate broker from L.A., a reclusive blonde who just wants to be left alone in her cabin on Idaho's Wolf Mountain. Doug Hawkins, a former homicide detective, first meets Alex when he finds her taking a tire iron to his new pickup, a seemingly extreme punishment for ignoring a No Trespassing sign. Still, when a local logger goes after her land, Alex finds that Doug is her best ally, and they both find that love can be a powerful antidote to the losses each has experienced earlier in life.
