Book Description
Updated to include new advances in allergy relief. Fifty million Americans suffer from allergies, and together they spend nearly $500 million per year on over-the-counter medicines that promise--and don't always deliver--relief. Now two specialists in allergy medicine reveal how to manage allergies safely and effectively, and live more comfortable, symptom-free lives.
Written in a clear, jargon-free style, Allergies is designed to help both the seasonal sneezer and the chronic sufferer find the safest, most comfortable way to live with their allergies. This comprehensive and authoritative resource helps readers make informed choices about everything from diagnostic tests to nasal antihistamines and corticosteroid sprays, from homeopathic remedies for poison ivy and insect bites to de-sensitizing therapies and emergency relief for severe reactions. Allergies demystifies allergy treatment and provides up-to-date information on effective self-treatment as well as traditional medical care.

FROM THE CRITICS
Andrea D. Posey
This book is true to its title and contains a comprehensive review of allergies and their diagnosis, treatment, and management. The authors state that the purpose is to provide the general reader a complete and basic text about allergies. This is a worthy objective, because there is a lack of this type of literature available today. The lay person will find this book written for an intelligent audience. There are many scientific and medical terms used throughout. This might make reading difficult for some audiences. The contents include information on asthmatic conditions, food and drug allergies, ""sick buildings,"" children, and pregnancy. A discussion about physician visits and immunotherapy is also provided. The appendixes contain information about asthma camps for kids, allergy organizations, Internet links, and foods that most commonly cause allergic reactions. This is an extremely well written book. The important information that it contains will help promote health and will dispel myths about allergies and their causes. This is a second edition. The revisions include an updated bibliography and reference list.
