<:;st> The 6th edition (1984) of this classic reference is cited in BCL3 and Sheehy. The 8th edition, a three-volume set, represents a major revision and updating of the 7th edition (1989), including the addition of the originator's name to the title (formerly Dangerous properties of industrial materials). The objective, however, remains the same: to promote safety by providing the most up- to-date hazard information available. To this end, some 14,000 entries have been revised for this edition, and 1,500 new entries added. Emphasis has been placed on including new carcinogenic and reproductive entries, and there is a significant increase in entries containing skin and eye irritation data. Additional physical and chemical properties have been added as available. Each entry concludes with a safety profile, a textual summary of the hazards presented by the entry.
