   Book Review

From School Library Journal
Grade 4-8 Keeping current on events in African countries is no small task. The authors have done an excellent job of giving readers historical background as well as a picture of contemporary Zimbabwe. Facts are as up-to-date as the seizures of white-owned farms. Information also includes chapters on geography, fauna, flora, government, religion, cultural life, and the peoples of the country. Fine-quality, full-color photos range from the spectacular, such as the Great Zimbabwe and Victoria Falls, to common everyday sights such as a Zimbabwean girl with a sack on her head and school children in uniform. Students will appreciate the maps and reproductions and will be fascinated with photos of a medicine man with his divining bones and sticks and a traditional wooden headrest. Sidebars, "Fast Facts," and a helpful time line all add interest to the factual and evenhanded presentation. -Dorothy N. Bowen, Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond Copyright 2002 Reed Business Information, Inc.
