K-Gr 2-These biographies provide brief introductions to these men and their greatest achievements but give little information about their personal lives. For example, there is no discussion of Carver having to overcome prejudice, Roosevelt's offspring are not mentioned, and no reference is made to Edison's two wives or children. Roosevelt refers to but never names World War II and the Great Depression. A black-and-white or full-color photograph or painting appears on every spread. There are no time lines to put events into perspective, and the illustrated "Words You Know" sections basically repeat previously used photos with no further clarifications. These texts don't flow as easily as titles in the "First Biographies" or "Famous People in Transportation" series (both Pebble).-Erlene Bishop Killeen, Fox Prairie Elementary School, Stoughton, WI Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
