FROM THE CRITICS
School Library Journal
Gr 4-8-These revised volumes are completely rewritten and have a larger font, wider spacing, and new photos. The overall look, integrity, and quality are the same. The texts address the political turbulence and complexity of these countries. The authors note how the political situations have negatively affected the people and led to the destruction of the environment. Each title gives a brief overview of the country's history, geography, politics, economy, environment, religion, people, culture, and more. Information boxes have been added and offer tidbits of interest. The former "Important Dates" section has been updated to a "Timeline" showing the progression of each country in the context of world history. The main drawback is the maps. Rather than showing each country in its larger geopolitical position, the new editions have pared down the maps to show only the country under discussion with slices of bordering nations. Otherwise, these titles are worthwhile updates.-Be Astengo, Alachua County Library, Gainesville, FL Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
