FROM THE CRITICS
Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
The girls were having great fun playing hide-and-seek until Emma's little sister Maggie arrived. She wants to join the fun, but has trouble counting to 100. The girls relent and let her join the game, but while she counts, they use the time to play their own version of hide-and-seek. In this variation, they count to 100 by 5s, 10s and 20s, while Maggie is still counting to 100. The number sequences are shown at the top and bottom of the pages accompanied. The ending adds a bit of humor, as do the delightful watercolor illustrations. At the conclusion of the story, there is a retelling and math activities by Marilyn Burns to help kids recognize number patterns and to count to 100 in different ways. Part of the "Hello Reader!" series, Math Level 2.
