The Chicka Chicka ABC Magnet Book

FROM OUR EDITORS

Now those feisty, coconut tree-climbing letters come packaged in an easy-to-use magnet book! "A" leads the way up the tree, and all the letters follow suit -- until the poor tree collapses with a loud "Chicka chicka...BOOM! BOOM!" But the fun doesn't stop there, because readers can fold open the spiral-bound book into an easel, placing a magnetic sheet under any page to hold magnets on top. Also included in the book are 26 colorful alphabet magnets, with extra pages in the book to "create your own words and scenes," practice matching magnets to letters, and put all the magnets in an empty coconut tree. An innovative way to make this already popular ABC book into something even more useful, Martin and Archambault's book will have children happily "chicka chicka boom boom"-ing their alphabet while parents rest assured their kids will be learning the essentials.

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot

You do need instructions to use this book and fortunately they are on the first page. The spiral bound book has an easel-back stand. The magnetic sheet has to be placed under a page of the book and the ABC magnets go on the top. This is not a book that will work well without some parental or caregiver assistance. It is fun for kids to select and match up the letters as they follow along with the story. For those who may not be familiar with it, the letters work their way up to the top of a coconut tree and when they all get there, well guess what. The tree bends and all of the letter fall "Boom! Boom!" It is the kind of rhyme and humor that kids enjoy. The last page suggests that they can create their own words and scenes and the next page shows the entire colorful alphabet. The original book has been around since 1989 and it has been given new life in this activity version. Keeping the letters safe in their zippered pouch may be the biggest challenge facing kids and their caregivers. 2002, Little Simon/Simon & Schuster,
