FROM THE CRITICS

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot

Little Bear is heading out for a visit to grandma and grandpa. He decides that he wants to take them some gifts, so he loads up his wagon with soup, cookies, and a jar of jam. He also added some pine boughs because they have such a nice fresh scent. Along the way, he met his friend Duck who is enjoying a biscuit and Little Bear thinks that some jam would do quite well with them. They polish off the jam in no time. Next he meets up with his pal Cat and they lap up the soup. Being a generous soul, Little Bear offers cookies to his friend Hen. By the time he arrives at his grandparents' home, all that is left are the pine boughs. They are warmly received and after hugs and kisses, Little Bear goes in for a delicious lunch. He is certainly one hungry Little Bear, to have eaten all the goodies with his friends and then still have room for a lunch with his grandparents. 2002, HarperFestival,
