From Booklist
Claudia Adams has it all until one day she returns to her penthouse to discover that her about-to-be-indicted husband is fleeing the country with all their money and another woman. In a few short minutes, Claudia is husbandless, homeless, and jobless. She sublets a small apartment and takes a seasonal job in a department store. Michael Walsh, the new manager, overhears her critical comments on the anorexic young models used in their catalogs. He quickly asks her to work with him for a few weeks on improving sales. Claudia is cautiously excited and hopeful the job will become permanent. As they work closely together, Claudia and Michael develop feelings for each other, but Michael has issues that keep him from exploring what could be between them. Yet another of Ellis' probing looks at how women cope with turning points in their lives. Maria Hatton
