About the Author
Roger W. Earle, MA, is the associate executive director and director of exam development for the NSCA Certification Commission. An NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, he has been a practicing professional for more than 15 years. Earle received his bachelors degree in exercise science (magna cum laude) from Creighton University and his masters degree in exercise science (summa cum laude) from the University of Nebraska. He is coeditor of Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning, Second Edition. Before his work with the NSCA Certification Commission, Earle was a NCAA-Division I strength coach and an exercise science faculty member at Creighton University for nine years. Earle makes his home with his wife and children in Glendale, Arizona. Thomas R. Baechle, EdD, is executive director of the NSCA Certification Commission and professor and chair of the department of exercise science and athletic training at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. In his notable career covering more than 30 years as a fitness professional and academician, Baechle has earned numerous certifications, taught at respected universities, held a variety of professional and civic offices, and volunteered for many national and international associations and organizations related to fitness and personal health. He also is widely published and lectures frequently on topics relating to his area of expertise. Among his recent honors are the 2002 Distinguished Faculty Service Award from Creighton University, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the NSCA in 1998, and the Award of Merit for Excellence in Education and Development of Professional Standards from the International Fitness Institute in 1996. Baechle makes his home in Omaha.
