FROM THE CRITICS

School Library Journal

Gr 5-8-These slim volumes provide basic information and include statistics, opposing viewpoints, and quotes from scientists. Each book has four chapters; a number of their titles pose a question such as "What Does the World Use for Energy?" In addition to text, the authors employ photographs and diagrams to provide answers. "For Further Exploration" sections offer short annotated lists of books and Web sites, and occasionally articles. Global Warming and Recycling include chapter notes that cite sources; Energy does not. The liberal use of vibrant colors, the inclusion of a photograph or diagram on most pages, and the generous print size will appeal to reluctant readers. These titles will help students examine cause and effect (and possible solutions), and challenge them to live green.-Patricia Ann Owens, Wabash Valley College, Mt. Carmel, IL Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
