From Booklist
This is an anthology for those who chafe at the feline monopoly on the fantasy genre. In it, a number of well-known authors inject canines into sf and fantasy scenarios. Tanya Huff gives us a story in which a dog, whose person has discovered gates for travel between worlds, searches for his lost person on myriad worlds. India Edgehill's "A Spaniel for the King" is a historical fantasy in which a spaniel plays a major role in the succession to the English throne after Charles II's death. There are a couple of creepy pieces, especially Jane Lindskold's "Keep the Dog Hence," in which a dog abandoned and dying of thirst runs with a pack of ghost dogs and finally wreaks revenge on the petty creature who chained her up. Like the stories in this book's cousin anthologies, the Catfantastic series, these aren't the deepest work in their genres, but they are entertaining and occasionally moving. Regina Schroeder
