Yoga for You and Your Child

SYNOPSIS

Yoga develops in children as awareness of themselves and their potential, helps to promote mental and physical calm, and aids their concentration. In addition, yoga helps children to cultivate a positive and balanced self-image—not to mention the beginnings of spiritual awareness. All this, as well as the most obvious benefits of helping children stay healthy and agile.

Whether you already practice yoga or are trying it for the first time, Yoga for You and Your Childhas been created so that any parent, of any level of flexibility or fitness, can begin to offer and share with their child yoga's many benefits. Expert teacher Mark Singleton suggests more than 40 yoga postures that are particularly recommended for children — and parents too! Clearly presented step-by-step photographs enable both parent and child to follow the instructions safely and easily. Many of the posses include variations for younger and older children, and there are plenty of animal postures, games, and funny walks to ensure that your child will experience yoga in the most fun and playful way possible.

Brimming with practical advice on how to guide your child through their yoga journey, this practical and inspirational book is a must for any parent, who is keen to encourage a positive, confident, and healthy start to life.

Mark Singleton is a qualified Satyananda instructor, and teaches workshops and clubs for children of all ages. He is affiliated with the French organization Research into Yoga in Education and is an associate of Micheline Flak of the Bihar School, one of the first people to introduce yoga to school children in the West more than thirty years ago. Mark trained specifically in children's yogic education at The Alice Project in India, a program that is patronized by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Tara Fraser, who has contributed the foreword, opened her own yoga school, Yoga Junction, in London in 2000. She is the author of Total Yoga, The Easy Yoga Workbook, and Live Better: Yoga.
