9/11 Commission Report: Final Report of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon The United States: With Interim Reports, Press Releases and Index of the Final Report

FROM THE PUBLISHER

"We approached our task with a deep respect for the place of September 11th in our nation's history. Some have compared the shock we felt to Pearl Harbor, others to the Kennedy assassination. There are no comparisons. This was a moment unique in our long history."
￯﾿ᄑThomas H. Kean and Lee H. Hamilton, Concluding Remarks from the Public Statement upon the Release of the 9/11 Commission Report

The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States￯﾿ᄑknown as the 9/11 Commission￯﾿ᄑwas signed into law on November 27, 2002. Its mandate was to prepare a full accounting of the events surrounding the attacks on September 11, 2001, and to offer recommendations for enhancing national security to prevent future attacks.

On July 22, 2004, after reviewing 2.5 million pages of documents and interviewing more than 1,200 people, the Commission released its bipartisan, unanimous, final report to the American people. In it, the Commission presents its conclusions regarding the circumstances surrounding the September 11 attacks, and offers recommendations for changes to be made at the governmental level to better combat the terrorist threat.

This fully indexed edition of the official final report of the 9/11 Commission includes the panel's two interim reports and twenty-two press releases, which document the progress of the investigation as it was underway. Numerous other official documents connected with the 9/11 Commission Report, including complete transcripts of the public hearings and information about Commission members and staff, are available at www.9-11commission.gov.
