SYNOPSIS
Acereda (Latin American literature, Arizona State U.) and Guevara (Latin American literature, U. of Nebraska-Lincoln) study metaphysical and existential dimensions of the work of Darᄑo, presenting them as initial steps toward modernity. They look at life and death issues in the Nicaraguan author's poetry, in particular, and examine the tragic components of his work in the light of 19th century philosophy, especially the writings of Schopenhauer.
