From Library Journal Baskets are important cultural artifacts that were created to serve the needs of daily living. This study examines the diversity of North American Indian and Eskimo baskets in the context of their makers' lives. The first section is a showcase containing 120 color plates which exhibit the aesthetic richness of baskets. Following is a general overview of the history, attributes, care, and conservation of North American baskets. The final section categorizes by region, culture, and tribe these storage, food gathering, and ceremonial baskets. Both comprehensive and authoritative, this handbook is highly recommended for academic libraries and public libraries with extensive craft or North American Indian collections.
