Teddy Bear Encyclopedia

FROM OUR EDITORS

As the story goes, during a hunting expedition in 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear that had been cornered for him. The incident was commemorated in a political cartoon, which, in turn, inspired a plush toy called "Teddy's Bear." The toy was an instant success, and the rest, as they say, is history! This lavishly illustrated book unfolds nearly a century of teddy-bear making as it profiles more than 500 bears -- rare and familiar, classic and contemporary. Get the inside story of such famous manufacturers as Steiff, Merrythought, Hermann, and Russ Berrie; discover the proper ways to wash and groom, repair, and restore teddy-bears; learn how to identify, value, and buy limited editions and replicas; and more! The book concludes with a teddy bear time chart, factory histories, a directory of useful addresses for specialist stores, museums, clubs, and publications around the world, and a glossary of bear-related terms. 10" x 11 1/2". Color photos.

ANNOTATION
