This reprint of Toland's original 1959 book by the same title is highlighted by conversations that make it sound as though the author were actually at the Battle of the Bulge. It provides vivid details of the behind the scenes activities as well as soldiers' and bystanders' perceptions of the actual fighting. Toland has written several books about World War II and he notes in his preface that he interviewed thousands of people for this book, however the lack of any reference or bibliographic notes reduces its efficacy as an academic source.
