Elizabeth Gaskell: An Annotated Bibliography of English Language Sources, 1976-1991 FROM THE PUBLISHER
Critical interest in Elizabeth Gaskell has expanded significantly in recent years. This extensively annotated bibliography builds on the work of previous bibliographers, identifying biographies, newly discovered correspondence, critical works, and other bibliographies published between 1976-1991. In her introduction, Ms. Weyant comments on the growing interest in Gaskell's short fiction, the discovery of previously unpublished correspondence (which contributes steadily to scholars' knowledge and understanding of Ms. Gaskell, the woman and the writer) and the impact of feminist criticism on Gaskell scholarship. As further evidence of a renewed interest in Elizabeth Gaskell and her rightful place as a central figure in the Victorian canon, Weyant identifies new editions of Gaskell's novels and short stories which were published during the 15-year period covered. This bibliography includes a list of masters and honors theses to demonstrate the curricular interest in Gaskell. An extensive subject index provides for easy access to the some 350 entries.
