French painter Georges Braque (1882-1963) was one of the great artistic pioneers of the twentieth century. Together with fellow artist and intimate friend Pablo Picasso, Braque is considered the founding father of the art movement known as Cubism, a term used to describe the fragmented, 'cubelike' forms found in many of his innovative works.
