Is it right to kill Satan's hit man? Would it help God's work? This installment in the Left Behind series picks up with Rayford Steele--"believer" and international fugitive--as he struggles with a plan to assassinate Antichrist Nicolae Carpathia. Meanwhile, Carpathia has been busy rebuilding roads, airports, and a cellular/solar satellite phone system--all designed to help him become supreme ruler of the world--and even claim himself to be God. We also find ace reporter Buck Williams anonymously preaching to the masses of believers and converts through his cyberspace magazine The Truth. All the believers in the safe house, including Buck, Doc, Chloe, and Tsion, are suspicious of Hattie--former mistress of Carpathia--who claims to be a believer but may have already compromised their secret location when she tried to buy her way to Europe months before.

Fans of the series won't be disappointed. Jenkins's signature writing is at full force. Readers can count on a suspenseful plot, imaginative futuristic thinking, and familiar characters, all of which appear in the opening pages and are sustained until the last cliffhanger scene when God unleashes another earth-shattering disaster.

From Library Journal
In the continuing struggle after the Rapture, Rayford Steele and Buck Williams plan to dethrone Nicolae Carpathia and expose him as the Antichrist. LaHaye and Jenkins (Apollyon) build up a plot reminiscent of "Who Shot J.R.?" and leave us hanging after the assassination of Nicolae. Who did it, is he really dead, and when is the next book coming out? As the millennium approaches, so does interest in this series, so don't be "left behind." From Beliefnet
The masses like LaHaye and Jenkins, even though their theology makes it logical to kill all children at age 10 in order to guarantee them a ticket to heaven or that God does not want Christians ever to suffer and so removes them in the Rapture before there is tribulation. (Tell that to contemporary martyrs.) (Beliefnet, June 2000)

SYNOPSIS

Assassins is the sixth book in the continuing drama of those left behind at the Rapture of the church -- events prophesied in the Book of Revelation, dramatically depicted in a setting that could be anytime in the not-so-distant future. Picking up where Apollyon left off, this latest volume brings closure to some "cliff-hanger" situations in book five, while it confronts readers with an intriguing new set of challenges and questions about the Tribulation Force and their clashes with the Enemy and his legions.

The plot takes many twists and turns as the Tribulation Force moves through mayhem and destruction created by Nicolae Carpathia and his followers. The life of the Carpathia-appointed head of Enigma Babylon One-World Faith is in jeopardy, as are the lives of the two witnesses at the Wailing Wall. Adding to these already vivid narratives, a supernatural horde of 200 million demonic horsemen appears to wreak further death and destruction. A member of The Tribulation Force dies, while the group continues to prepare for a future as fugitives, and houseguest Hattie Durham, who is not committed to their faith and mission, leaves the "safe house." Rayford Steele, one of the original Tribulation Force, struggles with his desire to kill Carpathia and his need to maintain a low profile, keeping his allegiance to the group secret to Carpathia and his puppets. World history and prophecy collide in Jerusalem at the middle of the Tribulation for this most explosive yet continuing drama of those left behind.

...a highly imaginative piece of work, with much Christian wisdom and a message of readiness relevant enough to all regardless of which comes first -- one's own last days or the world's.
