From Literary Times Jake Maxwell, owner of the Lazy T Ranch, returned from the Civil War to find farmers settling on land his family had occupied for twenty years. There was little he could do about it since he didn't own the land. But now the farmers are coming to him and demanding payment for damages caused by his cows. He stands to lose his ranch if he doesn't get his herd to market. The only problem is, he doesn't have any cowhands to help him. Isabelle Davenport is determined to find homes for the ragtag bunch of orphans under her care. But when she finds out that the farmers who have agreed to take the boys in intend to treat them no better than slaves, Isabelle knows she has to find some other solution. When Jake offers his help, Isabelle can hardly refuse. Making a group of boys into cowhands and Isabelle into a trail cook seems like more trouble than it's worth. But Jake wants to keep his ranch and Isabelle wants to find homes for the boys. Along the way they find out that a lady from Georgia, a cowboy from Texas and a motley crew of boys can become a family. Jake begins an exciting new series from Leigh Greenwood called The Cowboys. Jake is a rough-around-the-edges hero while Isabelle is the perfect lady in all respects. Of course, this doesn't stop them from falling in love. The boys in Isabelle's care add humor and warmth to the story (and the hope that they will each get their own book!). Leigh Greenwood fans will be thrilled to know that there will be at least two more books in the series-Ward and Buck. If the popularity of the Seven Brides series is any indication, The Cowboys is sure to be a long and wonderful collection of stories! Leigh Greenwood continues to delight readers with wonderful western romances! Fun, entertaining and romantic! Jake is special-- I can't wait for Ward's story! Leigh Greenwood's talent for creating memorable and authentic characters is unsurpassed! A book by Leigh Greenwood is always a keeper! Kristina Wright -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc.
