Jake Maxwell, owner of the Lazy T Ranch, returned from the Civil War to find farmers settling on land his family had occupied for twenty years. There was little he could do about it since he didn't own the land. But now the farmers are coming to him and demanding payment for damages caused by his cows. Jake is a rough-around-the-edges hero while Isabelle is the perfect lady in all respects. Of course, this doesn't stop them from falling in love. The boys in Isabelle's care add humor and warmth to the story (and the hope that they will each get their own book!). Leigh Greenwood fans will be thrilled to know that there will be at least two more books in the series-Ward and Buck. If the popularity of the Seven Brides series is any indication, The Cowboys is sure to be a long and wonderful collection of stories!
