Ballet Barre and Center Combinations: Word Descriptions, Vol. 1

SYNOPSIS

The barre work in this newly expanded book is a republication of the word descriptions in Linda Crist's earlier work, Ballet Barre Encha￯﾿ᄑnements. The author offers at least ten possible versions of each traditional exercise: pli￯﾿ᄑ, battement tendu, battement d￯﾿ᄑgag￯﾿ᄑ, rond de jambe ￯﾿ᄑ terre, battement frapp￯﾿ᄑ and fondu, rond de jambe en l'air, adagio and stretch, and grand battement. The brand new center combinations provide contact with a wide range of guest teachers: Basil Thompson (The Royal Ballet and American Ballet Theatre), Michael Simms (American Ballet Theatre and Bournonville style), Jeffery Bullock (contemporary ballet), and Margaret McLaughlin Blair (Joffrey Ballet). Volume II contains University of Arizona professor Suzanne Knosp's new music composed especially to accompany Volume I. With clear, easy-to-follow descriptions of more than 80 barre combinations and more than 80 center combinations and specially composed music, these book provide teachers and students with new perspectives and challenges. Volume III includes the Labanotation of all the barre and center work.
