Rusyns are a national minority in Slovakia who live primarily in the northeastern part of the country where it borders on Poland and Ukraine. This book describes the position of the Rusyn literary language and Rusyn dialects of eastern Slovakia between and among the Ukrainian and Slovak literary languages and their dialects. The author ilustrates how Rusyn sentence structure is distinguished by some very specific features.The book first provides background information on the relationship of language to the national awakening and on the Rusyn spoken dialects and literary language of eastern Slovakia. A concluding chapter provides a detailed anlaysis of the phonological, morphological, lexical, and syntactical features of the Rusyn language.The entire text is bilingual, in English and Slovak.
