Sea of Sorrows FROM OUR EDITORS
The Barnes & Noble Review
West's fourth installment in her Sun Sword series (The Broken Crown, The Uncrowned King, and The Shining Court) is sure to satisfy hard-core West fans. The story begins by revealing the circumstances behind events in the last novel. The Serra Diora meets with Margret, the new Matriarch of the Arkosa Voyani, and tells her how her mother Evallen died, and just as important, how the Serra came to wear the Heart pendant. There is no love lost between these two. When the Serra tells Margret that she killed her mother, Margret almost snaps; but she calms down long enough to listen to the story. The Serra was, in fact, trying to save her mother and, in the process of doing so, underwent a ritual that made her a blooded Arkosan, a daughter of the Heart. Margret wants the pendant, but she must accompany the Serra on a sacred pilgrimage of epic proportions before she can possess it.
And, of course, there is the awakening of the Powers, the political wrangling between clans and houses, and the escalating war against the nightmarish kialli and their demonic Master!
Devoted Michelle West fans will love her newest shelf-bender. (Paul Goat Allen)
