From Library Journal
Published in 1954, 1966, and 1973, respectively, all of these volumes are set in Bennett's Island, ME, and all are essentially the love stories of women who come to the island either looking for love or trying to get away from it. Though LJ's reviewer found Strawberries "light reading," the book nonetheless was praised for capturing the "atmosphere of the small island and the character of its people." The Dawning of the Day FROM THE PUBLISHER
Life on the island however, is not as peaceful as she had hoped. Two families, the Bennetts and the Campions, vie for control of the lobster trade in a contest of escalating violence. The islanders are steadfast in their ways and suspicious of Philippa's unorthodox teaching methods. But she finds an ally in tall, quiet Steve Bennett. In the end she must decide, once and for all, whether to make the island her home or leave it forever.
