Washington Quarters 1999-2003 (Coin holder) FROM THE PUBLISHER
1999 marks the beginning of an exciting time for coin collectors. From 1999 through 2008, the standard design on the reverse (tails) side of the Washington quarter will be replaced with a design representative of one of the fifty states. This redesign is the first change to the quarter in more than twenty years. The words "United States of America" and "quarter dollar" will be moved to the heads side of the new quarters, and the year of minting will appear on the tails side.
The new state quarters will be issued in the order that states became part of the United States, with five new quarters to be released each year. Coins for circulation will be minted in both Philadelphia and Denver, creating a total of ten different quarters per year (each state coin will be released from both mints). The 10-year series will consist of one hundred quarters in all.
