From the Author
Passion is the reason for everything we do and feel - it's a state of mind and being. To get in touch with your passions you have to somehow find the way back to your heart. For some people coffee is like anything else - brussel sprouts, celery, headcheese - a 'take-it-or-leave-it-kind-of-thing'. But for millions of java junkies, coffee and specialty coffees are at the heart of life's simple indulgences. I sipped my way back to my center to discover that I wanted to write a bold and different coffee book for all coffee lovers to treasure. From the heart of my coffee cup, this book was written with passion for the love of life and coffee. It is part of my imagination and I hope it serves you as a creative recipe guide, innovative coffee techniques and a whole-latte-laughter! It has been my pleasure to brew it for you and I hope it inspires you to follow YOUR passions, increase your imagination and obey your heart's counsel to wherever life's daily grind may lead you! I read a beautiful quote once which read: "When you write from the heart, you not only light the dark path of your readers, you light your own way as well". -Susan M. Zimmer, Author/Publisher, Cappuccino Cocktails

About the Author
As a youngster, Zimmer spent some European summer holidays staying with her relatives, who owned a Bavarian cafe. It was here where her love for ice-cream grew into her passion for iced coffees or as they say in Europe "Eiskaffees". Coffee has since always been a part of the banquet of her life. After Zimmer graduated from the "school of hard knocks", her BEAN-there experience started in a coffee-selling career for commercial coffees. This involved nationally branded coffee product launches and retail coffee sales. (She found that there were a lot of perks to selling coffee - what she couldn't sell - she drank!) After 8 years of retail coffee sales she transferred to foodservice (restaurant) sales. In 1996, she decided to begin her own coffee business of importing/distributing premium Italian espresso coffees and quality espresso/cappuccino machines. In 1997, to brew up more business, she created a cappuccino menu concept and called it "Cappuccino Cocktails"! This coffee recipe concept fuelled espresso excitement for her restaurants and their patrons. In 1999, Zimmer recognized that coffee enthusiasts had an insatiable thirst for information about their beloved coffee bean. She then decided to write a coffee book in order to share her wonderful flavors of the coffee world with everyone. After 2-plus years of self-publishing she took her collection of hot, iced and festive coffee recipes; a few cups of her innovative coffee chapters; a handful of tips; unique techniques; sprinkled it all with java jokes and coffee quotes - voila! Cappuccino Cocktails-Specialty Coffee Recipes...and 'A-! Whole-Latte' more! was printed!(Not to mention that while writing the coffee book she gulped down 833 cups of coffee, 244 of which were made from her espresso stove-top maker, 133 French-pressed, and the rest from her faithful filter-drip kitchen rooster!) If this was not enough to make your head spin, on a more personal note behind all this bean-scene, Susan blended 5 teenagers with her entrepreneural boyfriend! Almost every morning there were 'steaming, frothing' lattes and 'very hot' espressos! When life became very hairy, Susan started drinking espressos black and straight up! Today, her blessings have filtered down to having a loving husband (yes-the same boyfriend!), wonderful children and step-children (they all moved out!) and 3 gorgeous grandchildren. Her passion for life, love and coffee stirred in with some warm humor has kept her going. With most certainty, this coffee author knows indeed that "life can be a GRIND, 'cause she's BEAN there!"

"The conversation flowed between them warm and refreshing, like a good cup of coffee.-R. Lehmann, The Time of Love LET'S DO COFFEE: AN INTIMATE INTRODUCTION Drinking coffee and specialty fancy coffees has become a 2.25 billion-cup-per-day lifestyle. The world of coffee employs more than 25 million people around the world to sustain our coffee supply. Whether our beloved brew is purchased from a drive-thru kiosk and consumed on-the-go, lingered over in a noisy coffee-pub, or sipped in a cloistered cafe, specialty coffee consumption has become a distinctive niche in our society. The emergence of the Espresso era and the cappuccino years have fueled this public phenomenon. An explosion of sophisticated specialty tastes have changed the face of coffee forever. Further expansions of this "new-age beverage culture" have allowed coffee, and all of its variations, to penetrate to many non-traditional venues such as bookstores, gas stations, department stores and airports. In some parts of the country, it seems a coffee bar has sprouted on every street corner. Specialty coffee beverages have also made huge strides in becoming part of many households. It was only a matter of time before Espresso machines would constitute the spiritual and aesthetic hearts of many North American kitchens. Home Espresso/cappuccino machines are now quickly becoming the kitchen roosters that greet a new morning for many Espresso aficionados. It is estimated that at least 11.6 million households in America already own an Espresso machine, and that 44 percent of them use the appliance frequently. The best news yet is that you do not necessarily need a special machine to make a creative cappuccino cocktails! If you do own an Espresso machine, that's a bonus. If you do not have one but would prefer to drink Espresso coffee, and your budget cannot accommodate an expensive machine, a stove-top Espresso maker can be purchased for around $2- - $30 at most Italian or kitchen specialty stores. More information is available in the chapter "Coffee Machines and Methods". In the chapter "Cream of the Cup", we'll get into various tips and methods of steaming and frothing milk for fancy coffees and cappuccino cocktails recipes. "Make a Basic Cappuccino WITHOUT a Machine", tips from an Executive Chef, will hopefully inspire you to begin to brew and create cappuccino cocktails today. There is no reason why you cannot perform your own ritual of brewing Espresso and making cappuccino in the comfort of your own kitchen, to please your palate, nourish your soul and entertain your guests. Cappuccino Cocktails is meant to be a user-friendly recipe and information guide, with easy-to-follow recipes created and collected over my years of coffee and cappuccino experience. Hot and cold specialty coffee concoctions are as varied as the blending combinations of coffee beans. In the flexible recipes which follow, Espresso coffee may be replaced by a dark-roasted or strong coffee, whatever you perceive "strong" coffee to be. Espresso coffee is an acquired taste and many times it is made improperly, leaving the drinker with a bitter taste. Espresso, like coffee, has to be made with love and respect to live up to its aromatic and flavorsome potential. The strength of the coffee, however, is a personal preference, so always suit the coffee strength to your personal palate. In the recipes to follow, suitable suggested non-alcoholic syrups may be substituted for liqueurs to make non-alcoholic cappuccino cocktails. A complete list of suitable syrups is itemized in the "Coffee Syrups" chapter. Whipped cream, shaved chocolate and maraschino cherries are just a few of the suggested garnishes. Biscotti biscuits or delicious cappuccino/vanilla creme-filled cookie straws make excellent accompaniments to cappuccino cocktails as an after-dinner dessert. With all of these variations available, creating delicious cappuccino cocktails beverages is easy and fun. One chapter in this book explores "The Wondrous World of Coffee" and another navigates through "A Coffee Atlas", defining the various coffee beans of the world. A historical coffee timeline, "Coffee: Rich in History", takes you through a mosaic of histories dating back over a millennium, offering you insight into the origins and karmic travels of the coffee bean. "Coffee's Future" expands our awareness of the new developments of coffee consciousness from sustainable coffee cultivation to the world's coffee trade. "Coffee and Your Health" outlines interesting aspects regarding health effects of the passionately addictive brew. "Coffee Machines and Methods" offers very important tips and information on how to make that perfect brew, including an exclusive section for Espresso coffee making. Inspiring coffee quotes introduce each chapter and are sprinkled generously throughout the recipes. For common or higher grounds, I hope this book intrigues you with tips 'n' triva, java jokes, lore and a whole latte more! So...if you are ready to get perking, then grab life by the beans, read on and let's get brewing. -Excerpt from Cappuccino Cocktails, 1st Chapter

Zimmer graduated from "the school of hard knocks" and states that throughout her life she "knows that life can sometimes be a GRIND because she's BEAN there!"

She was directly involved in the coffee industry for 15 years prior to the 2 years it took for her to brew Cappuccino Cocktails gourmet coffee book. Her "bean there" experience started in a selling career for nationally branded commercial coffees 15 years ago, involving national coffee product launches and retail selling of hot and cold coffee products. After 8 retail selling years, she transferred to foodservice (restaurant) sales. In 1996, she independently set up her own business of importing/distributing premium Italian espresso coffees and high-end espresso machines. In order to brew up additional sales in 1997, she created a cappuccino menu concept called "Cappuccino Cocktails". This recipe concept fuelled "espresso" excitement for her restaurant customers and their patrons. Years later she added an iced cappuccino line to her product portfolio. Her unfailing positive attitude, passionate spirit and powerful enthusiasm, fuelled by shots of her favorite espresso, kept her perking!

Zimmer recognized that coffee/cappuccino and espresso enthusiasts had a 'thirst for knowledge' about their beloved coffee bean. Bam!
