SYNOPSIS
Reminiscent of and Bernard Malamud's The Natural, W. P. Kinsella's Shoeless Joe,, and the film Field of Dreams, OPENING DAY is a novella with the kind of magic charm that transcends sport and rises to the level of heroic myth. When the owner of a downtrodden team in the AA Mid Florida League discovers that his aging groundskeeper was once a star in the Negro Leagues, a public relations scheme is hatched. But what begins as a stunt leads to an astonishing outcome that no one, least of all Buck Wilson, the unassuming former great, could have predicted.

An exciting look into what the future of books might be in the age of the computerᄑ. LiveREADS has started on a very interesting road, indeed.
Atlantic Monthly
I get a good feeling from LiveREADS, in particular from its recognition that "electronic book" is a form of its own that can and should be more than text on a screen
Tulsa World
"Those familiar with the breathless pace of Standiford's thrillers might be surprised that a story as lyrical and gentle as Opening Day could come from the same hand."
Len Kawell
The folks at LiveREADS have really put together a book that shows what can be done with eBooks. It includes amazing graphic design, linksᄑsound, video, and more." (Len Kawell, one of the founders of Glassbook)
