Book Description
"It" Happens! provides proven, practical methods for handling "It" and becoming truly change-resilient. "It" is any change that affects you. "It" might be a new job or a layoff. A marriage or a merger. The loss of a loved one or a mental or physical challenge of your own. Welcome or unwelcome, change is inevitable. But where others simply advise you to "overcome your fears" and "move on," "It" Happens! shows you how. You'll learn the steps to resolve the inner conflicts change brings. And you'll learn to master the behaviors that mean the difference between being paralyzed by change and moving forward courageously. "It" Happens! includes a mini-workbook to help you pull together all of the concepts you learn and immediately apply them. Also, a free Change Puzzle is included with your purchase.

Two squirrels stood in the mouth of a cave in a smoldering forest, calling after a bear named Blink, who lumbered down the path. "Blink, stop!" cried Ruff as he wiped a tear from his eye. "The fire destroyed all our Treasures! Everything we value! Our food, our home, our safety!" "What should we do?" asked Rosie, the more practical of the two. "Move on," the bear shrugged. "But where?" Rosie asked. "Across Rushing River. To the forest called New World. I bet it's still there," Blink said. "I doubt the fire jumped the river. Let's go." "But we can't just pick up and leave," Ruff protested, catching up with Blink. "This is home!" "When it happens," Blink said, "when your old world burns down, you gotta go out and find a new one." "Not yet!" Ruff wailed and tugged on Blink's tail to hold him back. But the great bear walked on, dragging the grief-stricken squirrel behind. "Look," Blink said. "Whenever it happens, I just blink and go. Go with your gut, Ruff! Use your instincts!" But Ruff was frozen, devastated -- too heartbroken to do anything. All he could do was mutter angrily, "People caused this fire. You can bet your life on that." "I think we should go," said Rosie, hurrying to her friend. But Ruff sat down again at the side of the trail and buried his head in his paws. Rosie laid a gentle paw on Ruff's shoulder, then turned to see Blink disappear over a blackened hill far in the distance, straight toward whatever lay ahead. She knew she should go too. But how could she leave Ruff behind?

"It" Happens!: How to Become Change-Resilient

FROM THE PUBLISHER

A simple story with a powerful message, "It" Happens! offers what other "coping with change" books have missed -- step-by-step, how-to guidance that really works. Change comes to us in many forms. No matter what the circumstances, we can deal with it in ways that make the experience easier and the results positive. "It" Happens!, a tale of two squirrels and their wise human friends, shows us how. Their forest destroyed by fire, the squirrels -- Ruff (who resists change) and Rosie (who is ready for change but isn't sure what to do next) -- know they must leave and go to New World. But the change is frightening. There's anger too -- and uncertainty. Change veterans Ebb and Flo, themselves wrestling with a life change, help the squirrels piece together the Change Puzzle that lets them conquer their emotions, change the behaviors that keep them stuck and feeling helpless, and find the Treasures that always await those who face change head-on.
