FROM THE CRITICS
Library Journal
Arranged alphabetically by destination, this work covers 25 top travel spots in the United Sates. Each of the uniform entries opens with a useful map of the area in question. The first section of the entry is "Exploring," which describes nearby attractions. The following sections cover dining, lodging, camping, shopping, arts and entertainment, and sports and outdoor activities. The last section, "Essential Information," lists where to go, festivals, bargains, tours, visitor information, arriving and departing, and getting around. The destinations range from Badlands National Park to Yosemite, with the Grand Canyon, Chicago, and other places in between. Particularly good picks in any category are starred. The destinations chosen are the most popular, so one's favorite may not be listed, but this is not a criticism. As the title says, the guide is aimed at families, so the dining is not gourmet or the hotels luxurious. A good value for public libraries.-George M.
