Inspired by the Renaissance and the Italian painter and architect Raphael, a group of young mid-19th century British painters, poets and critics formed the secret society known as the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Led by artist and poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti, the movement rebelled against the rigidity of the Royal Academy. All realism was lost; medieval tales, biblical stories, classical mythology, and nature provided inspiration. The result was a style characterized by archaic, yet romantic elements that influenced many artists, and paved the way for the modern era. 12" x 12" wall calendar
