From AudioFile
Does any mystery fan need an introduction to Georges Simenon's superb and internationally popular fiction? Masterful sleuthing by Chief Inspector Jules Maigret of the Paris Surete investigates the death of a dotty old lady, who wasn't so dotty after all. In this rendering, British actor Andrew Sachs does a particularly nice job with characterization and the inner monologues of Maigret's reasoning. Two things are missing: Gallic flavor-the action sounds more as if it's unfolding in London than Paris-and the central character-as read by Sachs, Maigret's lines are totally flat. Y.R.
