As always, the inestimable David Suchet rises to the challenge of playing Agatha Christie's vain and brilliant Belgian detective. His characterization is dead-on. As Poirot employs his "little grey cells" to solve a murder, a jewel robbery, and other misdeeds, Suchet not only captures Poirot's fussiness and mannerisms to a "T" but does the same with the supporting characters and the narrative itself. Poirot's sidekick, the clueless Captain Hastings, adds comic pomposity and aching frustration (over Poirot's vanity). All in all, Suchet's delivery tickles the ear like gentle, upbeat prose music.
