FROM THE CRITICS
Library Journal
Metal clay is a medieval alchemist's dream. Developed in Japan in the 1990s, it consists of precious metal particles combined with an organic binder and water to make a substance that looks and feels like potters clay. It is worked, dried, and fired like clay. Firing burns off the organic material leaving a fused piece of pure gold or silver. The piece can then be finished like any other metal. Wire, one of the first people in the United States to work with metal clay, gives detailed instructions for using it as a jewelry medium, with step-by-step projects for earrings, bracelets, and other pieces. Contemporary in style, these items tend to resemble cast pieces. This book on an interesting new craft belongs in every crafts collection. Literature Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
