About the Author
General Charles King was a soldier, military historian and novelist. He began his writing career in 1880 with the initial publication of his history Campaigning with Crook, regarded as his most important contribution to military history and one of the best first-person accounts written on the western Indian Wars. This success was soon followed by his first novel, The Colonel's Daughter. He continued to write novels, short stories and historical accounts throughout his life. At the time of his death in 1933, at age 89, he had authored at least 62 publications, most of which were historical romances set in either the Civil War, the Indian Wars, or the Spanish-American War. Titles of his better known novels include Laramie; or The Queen of Bedlam, Marion's Faith, The Deserter, A Trooper Galahad, Kitty's Conquest, An Apache Princess, and Captain Blake, among others.
