FROM THE CRITICS
Children's Literature - Greg M. Romaneck
Lacrosse is a sport that combines elements of hockey, field hockey and more obscure Celtic sports like hurling to make a competitive event that is extremely grueling. Lacrosse players must be able to run for long periods of time. Additionally, they must have tremendously developed hand-eye coordination. The toughness that is endemic in lacrosse means that players have to be able to accept and mete out physical punishment without losing their cool. Therefore, since lacrosse is a tough sport combining stamina and mental agility, participants need to think through their preparation prior to a match. In Lacrosse author Lisa McCoy parlays a solid introductory history of the sport with sound advice concerning topics such mental toughness, training, safety, equipment, and coaching opportunities. Written in a fluid manner and amply illustrated, Lacrosse is a book that will be beneficial to current or potential players. Further, Lacrosse is a book that will interest and inform coaches, trainers, and other adults who act as supporters of those hardy men and women who venture out onto the field to play this intensive sport. Part of the multiple volume "Sports Injuries" series. 2004, Mason Crest Publishers, Ages 9 to 12.
